The place where Thai luxury meets Miao heritage at 1,314 metres above the clouds

  • July 6, 2026

Nestled in a lush valley at an elevation of 1,314 metres, with karst peaks just beyond the window and a 60,000-square-metre private garden at your feet, the most enchanting quality of Anantara Guiyang Resort is how seamlessly it blends the laid‑back spirit of Thai luxury with the intangible cultural heritage of Guizhou's Miao and Dong minorities. Check in here, and you can immerse yourself in the region's customs and flavours over the course of a single day – without ever having to rush from one attraction to the next.

I had long held a quiet obsession with Guiyang's summers – while the rest of the country sweltered under heatwaves, this summer capital kept its own pocket of cool. After years of longing, I finally made the trip this summer. Instead of plunging into the crowds at the usual tourist hotspots, I settled into Anantara Guiyang Resort, nestled in a karst valley, determined to spend a few slow days far from the noise, asking nothing of myself but rest.

After the journey, my first proper meal here was a carefully prepared wild mushroom feast – a table laden with ingredients from the deep mountains of Guizhou, marking my first encounter with this city.
