The river breeze carries away the last trace of chill, the white magnolias are in full bloom, and sunlight scatters golden ripples across the Huangpu River. Following the meeting point of the river and the creek, you arrive at a landmark on the North Bund: Regent Shanghai on the Bund.
As the flagship property of the Regent brand in Greater China, the hotel stands at No. 60 Huangpu Road, on the site of the former Seagull Hotel, which holds deep maritime memories. Just outside the door pulses the modern energy of Shanghai and the vibrant riverside. But once you step inside, the clamour gently falls away, revealing an artistic sanctuary hidden within the city — one that feels especially airy and elegant in the daylight.
Designed by Cheng Chung Design (Hong Kong) under the theme “Mirroring the Waterfront, Illuminating Regent,” the hotel masterfully blends history with contemporary luxury through three key elements: light, flowers, and mirrors. The lobby unfolds like the petals of a white magnolia, while the preserved spiral staircase and a century-old piano quietly tell the stories of the old Seagull .
At the centre, the monumental crystal installation Chasing Light is composed of nearly 300 handcrafted crystal pieces. As light dances through them, it echoes the fluid grace of the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek. Near the entrance, a large lacquer artwork entitled Prologue sculpts the beauty of magnolias. Jin Yucheng’s Blossoms art series is thoughtfully placed throughout the hotel — each step reveals another layer of artistic immersion.
The hotel features 135 guest rooms, each redefining spacious luxury. The suites use a striking red-and-green colour palette to evoke Shanghai’s golden age. Floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows frame the full vista of the Bund’s historic architecture on one side and the Pudong skyline on the other. Semi-open partitions subtly define the space, while the bathtub faces the city view — during the day, you can enjoy the merging of river and sky. Embroidered floral motifs, petal-shaped side tables, and artful décor come together in a blend of neo-Chinese elegance and Shanghai’s distinctive style, offering a quiet, private haven of comfort and serenity.
